Роберт Лоуэлл (1917 - 1977)

Robert Lowell
(1917 - 1977)
Роберт Лоуэлл — американский поэт, драматург и литературный критик,

  • представитель исповедального направления в поэзии.
  • The Drunken Fisherman
    Пьяный рыбак

    Wallowing in this bloody sty,
    I cast for fish that pleased my eye
    (Truly Jehovah's bow suspends
    No pots of gold to weight its ends);
    Only the blood-mouthed rainbow trout
    Rose to my bait. They flopped about
    My canvas creel until the moth
    Corrupted its unstable cloth.

    A calendar to tell the day;
    A handkerchief to wave away
    The gnats; a couch unstuffed with storm
    Pouching a bottle in one arm;
    A whiskey bottle full of worms;
    And bedroom slacks: are these fit terms
    To mete the worm whose molten rage
    Boils in the belly of old age?

    Once fishing was a rabbit's foot--
    O wind blow cold, O wind blow hot,
    Let suns stay in or suns step out:
    Life danced a jig on the sperm-whale's spout--
    The fisher's fluent and obscene
    Catches kept his conscience clean.
    Children, the raging memory drools
    Over the glory of past pools.

    Now the hot river, ebbing, hauls
    Its bloody waters into holes;
    A grain of sand inside my shoe
    Mimics the moon that might undo
    Man and Creation too; remorse,
    Stinking, has puddled up its source;
    Here tantrums thrash to a whale's rage.
    This is the pot-hole of old age.

    Is there no way to cast my hook
    Out of this dynamited brook?
    The Fisher's sons must cast about
    When shallow waters peter out.
    I will catch Christ with a greased worm,
    And when the Prince of Darkness stalks
    My bloodstream to its Stygian term . . .
    On water the Man-Fisher walks.

    Автоперевод

    Валяться в этой кровавой Стю,
    Я бросил на рыбу рад, что мои глаза
    (Действительно Иеговы лук приостанавливает
    Не горшки с золотом, чтобы вес его окончания);
    Только кровь ртом радужная форель
    Розы на мою приманку. Они бухнули об
    Мой холст creel, пока моль
    Поврежденные нестабильного ткань.

    Календарь рассказать день;
    Носовой платок, чтобы отмахиваются
    Мошкара; диване unstuffed с грозой
    Pouching бутылку в одной руке;
    Бутылку виски, полны червей;
    И спальня брюки: они подходят условия
    Распределять червь, чьи расплавленная ярость
    Кипит в живот старости?

    Однажды ловля велась ноги кролика--
    O дуть ветер холодный, О горячий ветер,
    Пусть солнц проживания или солнц шаг:
    Жизнь танцевала джигу на кашалота в носик--
    Fisher свободно и непристойными
    Ловит держал его совесть чиста.
    Дети, бушует памяти drools
    За славу прошлых бассейны.

    Сейчас в горячей реке, исходящие, доставляет
    Его кровавые воды в отверстия;
    Песчинка inside my shoe
    Имитирует Луны, которые могут отменить
    Человек и Творение слишком; угрызения совести,
    Вонючий, замутненной посторонними до его источника;
    Здесь истерик трэш Кита ярости.
    Это пот отверстие старости.

    Нет ли возможности бросаю крюк
    Из этого взорван ручей?
    Fisher сыновья должны разыграть о
    Когда мелководье Петр.
    Я поймаю Христа с смазанную червь,
    И когда князь Тьмы стебли
    Моя кровь, чтобы ее Stygian срок . . .
    На воде Человек-Фишер прогулок.

    Lewis R. Amis (1856-1904)

    JEHOVAH, GOD, WHO DWELT OF OLD

    “There I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee.” Exodus 25:22

    Words: Lewis R. Amis (1856-1904).
    Music: Marlo L. Bartlett (1847-1919).

    Jehovah, God, who dwelt of old
    In temples made with hands,
    Thy power display, Thy truth unfold,
    Where this new temple stands.

    Vouchsafe to meet Thy children here,
    Nor ever hence depart;
    From sorrow’s eye wipe every tear,
    And bless each longing heart.

    The rich man’s gift, the widow’s mite,
    Are blended in these walls;
    These altars welcome all alike
    Who heed God’s gracious calls.

    From things unholy and unclean
    We separate this place;
    May naught here ever come between
    This people and Thy face!

    Now with this house we give to Thee
    Ourselves, our hearts, our all,
    The pledge of faith and loyalty,
    Held subject to Thy call.

    And when at last the blood washed throng
    Is gathered from all lands,
    We’ll enter with triumphant songs
    The house not made with hands.
